A New Couch (for Free!)

Aweh, guys!

So, we have been couchless since we moved from the AirBnB on the 11th of May which has kind of sucked to be honest. We have been relegated to either the dining chairs or the bed which hasn’t been ideal. We’ve looked at the couches at IKEA, and even the cheap ones seem like they’re going to be a huge financial sacrifice. Fortunately, when we first moved to Woerden, I looked on Facebook to see what groups are related to it, one of them being “Gratis af te halen in Woerden” (Free to collect in Woerden). And that’s when I saw it…

It is only a year old, in really good condition (apart from some sun fading – the reason the couple were getting rid of it) and it’s really comfortable! I PM’d the lady and she said that since I was the first person to get in touch, the couch was mine!

We arrived to collect it and it was much bigger than we realised! It was also around 20:30 and hiring a trailer was not an option and it needed to be gone as the new couch was arriving the next day. So, we decided the best course of action was two trips. The couple were also really nice about it, and the gentleman helped us load the first half into the boot of the car. We drove with the boot open and the Prius angrily beeping at us. On the second go, Hubby went by himself as I had to stay behind because the couch was blocking the doorway and I had to make sure the cats wouldn’t escape, which gave me flashbacks to the Bedspockalypse.

He returned and we got to work on the only real downside: getting it up our tall, narrow, shallow stepped staircase with a right angle bend the Dutch are famous for. I had a skinned finger and a couch slammed into my stomach and Hubby had bruises all over his shoulder and we were both exhausted by having to do two trips with the two sections, but it was worth it!

The cats also seem to approve…
