Our New Wishy Washy

Our New Wishy Washy

Aweh, guys!

So, have been in our new abode for about three weeks now and in those three weeks we haven’t had a washing machine. Since I am not an old washer woman, I discovered that there is a laundrette just down the road. The lady is lovely and she keeps all my missing socks for me and lets me keep my clothes in the dryer while I run other errands, but the process is a pain in the ass.

I have to load all the dirty laundry into one of our suitcases, get it downstairs and wheel it down the street to the laundrette. From there I wash my clothes and chill with a cup of coffee (which is free) until the washing is done. I then separate it into what needs to go into the dryer and what needs to be hung up, shove the wet stuff in one of the vacuum bags (no vacuum needed) before taking it back home. Because the laundry is wetter than an octopus it is also a lot heavier and now, I have to get it upstairs before hanging it all up to dry and going back to get the stuff from the dryer… it’s a workout! It is also rather expensive at €15 for a wash and dry in the big machines.

Luckily, my hubby doesn’t like to see me suffer (or rather doesn’t like to hear me complain) so he’s very proactive in making my life easier. We knew that buying a washing machine was out of the question as we simply don’t have the money for it, so he investigated other means, and that’s how he came across bundles.nl.

Bundles offers washing machines to rent with the option to include the laundry detergent which is automatically measured for the degree of soiling via a TwinDos system. We are paying €16.95 per month and each wash costs an additional €1. The machine is connected to wifi so it can keep track of the washes. If anything happens to the machine, they have to repair it. Hubby applied for it two weeks ago and two huge bottles of detergent arrived shortly thereafter. We also had the option to choose which brand of detergent we liked so I went with Ariel as I recognised the brand from South Africa.

The delivery also went very smoothly. As you all know, we’ve had trouble getting stuff upstairs (thanks IKEA), but the guys hoisted it up the stairs like it was nothing. They also installed it in under 3 minutes, had the paperwork signed and were out the door in no time.

Personally, I love doing laundry. It is one of my favourite chores… and now it’s going to become easier again thanks to our new wishy washy!
