A Day of Stuff Ups

A Day of Stuff Ups

Aweh, guys!

Since we are moving into our new flat on the 11th of May, we desperately need to get some furniture. Nothing too exciting. Just a bed frame and mattress for now and maybe some odds and ends. So, Hubby decided that we needed to rent a van.

We took the Prius to a place called Bo-Rent about 30 minutes from the new flat in Woerden and another 30 minutes from the AirBnB. We get to Bo-Rent, fill in our paperwork and get the keys to our van. It’s basically a Hi-Ace taxi which is the largest van Hubby is legally allowed to drive with a car license. Here comes the first stuff up. As we are walking away, Hubby asks, “You have the keys for the flat (in Woerden), right?”. Um, no… I was never told to take the keys, so I assumed he had them. He was annoyed, but it was fine. We could go back for them in the van.

We get on the road and then stuff up number two. “You at least have the keys for the AirBnb, right?” Um, no… Admittedly this was my fault. He asked me to check in the Prius for these keys, and I thought he was asking if they were present and accounted for, which they were, not that I should take them with. Now he was really annoyed, but now we could drop off the van, pick up the Prius and save petrol before returning for the van and heading to Woerden for drop off.

So, we make it to my least favourite place, IKEA, and we head to the bed department. We specifically select the Malm bed as it can accommodate storage drawers underneath. We then test the mattress to make sure it’s the one we like and then head over to the collection department and find the bed frame and mattress. Now this mattress is big cos Hubby is a big guy. We selected a 200x180 size which is smaller than the mattress we had back in SA.

We go to check out and pay and then wheel our cart to the van. Here comes stuff up number 3. The mattress is too tall, even at a diagonal angle. No way was it going to fit. We sigh desperately, load the van with the bedframe and take the mattress back to see if it can be delivered. Luckily it can, for the low, low price of €40.

We then drove back to get the Prius, leaving the van behind, went back to the AirBnB to get the keys to the flat in Woerden, went back to get the truck and ended our day carrying the bed frame boxes upstairs. I showed my friends a picture of the van and Courtney dubbed it the Tyrion Lannister of vans.

This really hasn’t been the most successful day, but it was full of valuable lessons, like make sure your van is big enough and that you have the keys.
